Letting Go, Letting New Energies Flow

The holidays are a great time to add some Feng Shui touches to your home. Chances are, you’re moving things around and display different decor anyway! The items you choose and where you place them can support good energetic flow for the season and the coming year.

1. Remember that clutter traps energy. Keep the flow going! Pack away everyday items into the boxes from which you are pulling out holiday-specific decor, so that your home still has breathing room. Better yet, take the opportunity to choose some items to part with, through re-gifting, donating, or posting them for sale online.

2. Only display objects you really love. This is true year-round, but during this sentimental season, we may unearth items that hold difficult memories. Consider letting these objects go, no matter how expensive or even if they are an heirloom. Pass them on to a relative or friend who will enjoy them, or donate them to charity. Then they can help to make wonderful new memories for another family.

3. Make sure to balance out fiery reds in decorating. Red adds excitable, combatative energies at a time when many people are already stressed. Small touches of red are balanced by larger expanses of calming colours like white, cream, and blue.

4. If it’s your tradition to decorate a freshly cut tree, try something new! Buy a living tree (potted) that you can later plant outside. Or, consolidate your house plants into one zone – ideally an area that you would like to energize, such as your Love, Career, or Family area – and decorate them instead. Either way you can take the opportunity to leave a tree growing, avoid the inauspicious energies of an expiring tree, plus save yourself the clean-up from pesky needles that drop off.

5. Match the holiday object to the Bagua map! For example – place Wise Men or other religious figurines in the Knowledge & Wisdom area, keep blooming plants or bowls of fruit in the Health zone, and hang stars or add a Menorah or other candles to the Fame area for maximum impact.

Have fun and go with the flow!
